This a Starry, Starry Evening in late 2019. In this version I have isolated some interesting elements from the scene as I move it into abstraction, in a certain way.
This work was developed on a background created using spray paints and cellophanes, and bare Masonite. Much of that was covered with the paint of the work.
The attempt was made to focus on certain elements, constructed from Styrofoam in 3D.
I will create a small series of works to extend from this point out to more abstract points, along different energy levels.
Born in 50's, first interested in ancient cultures, ancient migrations, archaeology Influenced by Van Gogh (and Abstract Expressionism), Klee, Dubuffet, surrealism, dada, pop art, Rauschenberg, jimi hendrix and high-energy jazz (e.g., Coltrane). I try to use materials which I consider to represent the basic building blocks of industrial culture, and incorporate them into my paintings. I use high-energy in my paintings to represent life's real energy. In my three dimensional work, I try to use my own crude carpentry to build the infrastructure. Concept is important, but for me, the work must also show the hand of the artist. I disdain the slick and polished in favor of my own primitive techniques which I have developed over the last 40+...
