Artist's Description

A mixed drink, in particular, a PowerHouse, a legendary concoction from the Blue Wall, a bar at UMASS Amherst, in the early 70's. It was famous for tasting like fruit punch, but containing 151 rum, along with vodka and tequila. Leave us just say - potent.

Kevin OBrien

Born in 50's, first interested in ancient cultures, ancient migrations, archaeology Influenced by Van Gogh (and Abstract Expressionism), Klee, Dubuffet, surrealism, dada, pop art, Rauschenberg, jimi hendrix and high-energy jazz (e.g., Coltrane). I try to use materials which I consider to represent the basic building blocks of industrial culture, and incorporate them into my paintings. I use high-energy in my paintings to represent life's real energy. In my three dimensional work, I try to use my own crude carpentry to build the infrastructure. Concept is important, but for me, the work must also show the hand of the artist.
