The Bear is upset about losing its hunting environment. What were once ice blocks are now Ice Cubes, too small for seals to recline on.
The Polar Bear used to trap the seal on the block.This piece is derived from Inuit renditions, plus gyrations.
Born in 50's, first interested in ancient cultures, ancient migrations, archaeology Influenced by Van Gogh (and Abstract Expressionism), Klee, Dubuffet, surrealism, dada, pop art, Rauschenberg, jimi hendrix and high-energy jazz (e.g., Coltrane). I try to use materials which I consider to represent the basic building blocks of industrial culture, and incorporate them into my paintings. I use high-energy in my paintings to represent life's real energy. In my three dimensional work, I try to use my own crude carpentry to build the infrastructure. Concept is important, but for me, the work must also show the hand of the artist. I disdain the slick and polished in favor of my own primitive techniques which I have developed over the last 40+...
